The emerging electric vehicle start-up Weltmeister (based in China) needed design services to help shape the in-car HMI system for their upcoming EX5 crossover vehicle.

After conducting UX research and market analysis, the iconmobile + icon/incar design team created a UX model and vision for a unified, scalable, and smart HMI system. Scope of work included a Window Projection, the Instrument Cluster and the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) screens.

Justin’s contributions included research, on-site work with the iconmobile+icon/incar team in Berlin, client engagement, wireframing, user flows, build-out and presentation of working prototypes of HVAC interface (using the JustinMind prototyping tool).

Two alternate schemes for HVAC controls on the IVI screen. The closed state of Type B has a larger surface which reduces the area of the adjacent navigation map, but allows for direct access to some HVAC controls. While Type A has a smaller surface (enlarging the nav map) but doesn't provide access to HVAC controls until the HVAC panel is expanded.
