Sephora Sensorium: Lucid Dreams Installation in New York


Lucid Dreams' is a multi-sensory interactive exhibition currently being staged in New York as part of Sensorium - a dynamic environment that demonstrates the evocative powers of scent. Custom video content combines with physical interaction to illustrate the connection between the sense of smell and memory. Gautam Rangan and Justin Lui worked on the sensing and video systems, collaborating with a team that included The Department of the 4th Dimension and Elena Manferdini. Sensorium is presented by retailer Sephora along with fragrance-maker Firmenich, and is currently on view in New York until November 27. Details available here.

Water Clouds of Light at Autumn Lights 2009 Showcase


An expanded version of Water Clouds of Light was exhibited at the Autumn Lights 2009 light art showcase on September 19, at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. Unlike the original installation at the UCLA New Wight Gallery, this version was staged outdoors and featured a serpentine configuration.

Animate Field at UCLA MFA Final Show


After three quarters of development, Animate Field was installed and exhibited at the Design | Media Arts final thesis show at the UCLA New Wight Gallery. An unexpectedly large crowd attended the show, and enjoyed experiencing each students' work. Animate Field was literally animated by participants who entered its fiber optic thicket, as their bodily presence and movement caused the fibers to change color and move in waves.
